VenmoVintage Cast Metal Copper Wagon Train Bank by Banthrico A copper plated coin bank in the style of a wagon train in an antique finish on cast metal. The wagon train has items for crossing the country – a water barrel, food basket, a trunk and a box. The lettering on front is worn "Deseret Federal savings and Loan Association" Please see pic.
This is what I was able to learn: "The bank was a promotional item given away by banks to encourage children to save. When a savings account was opened you could pick out a bank to take home, along with a small savings ledger. The ledger was updated at the bank each time a child took the bank in to be emptied for a deposit."
The savings bank dates to the1960’s. It was made by Banthrico, Inc., Chicago. The bottom is marked,”BANTHRICO INC. CHICAGO U.S.A.”. Measurements are 4 inches high x 2-1/2 inches wide. Base is 4-5/8 x 2-5/8 inches.
Bottom trap with toothed coin slot is intact. No key, as banks usually kept the key so kids without the ability for early withdrawal would learn the pleasure of savings. It is tarnished some and lettering worn off overall in good condition. New lowered price from $30
