Miscanthus Giganteus aka Giant Chinese Silver Grass is a sterile hybrid grass originally bred for use as a biofuel crop. Because of this, it has low water and fertilizer requirements and can grow in marginal soil, making it an ideal low effort ornamental clump grass for our climate. It is a perennial grass that can grow to heights of 13 feet in one season once fully established, which takes several years. Its height and density is such that it is used as natural deer fencing. It is non invasive and non spreading because the seeds are sterile, and unlike many other grasses, it does not send out runners. It is the ideal low maintenance ornamental grass!
