TheraPaws & ChinChilla Haven A Sanctuary for Chinchillas in Need 501(c) (3) Non-Profit Non-Breeding Organization We provide a healthy, loving home for unwanted and neglected chinchillas with permanent housing in our rescue and through adoptions.

Adoptions: All of the chinchillas we rescue have a permanent home here until we can find them a compatible forever home. They stay at the rescue a minimum of 30 days before they can be adopted. We do not adopt out any chinchillas that have any medical conditions such as malocclusion (teeth issues), seizures, heart murmurs, etc. All chinchillas are given the opportunity for litter pan training to facilitate easier cage cleaning for future homes. Our goal is to find wonderful, loving and knowledgeable forever homes for our chinchillas, but we are not desperate to get rid of any chins. Do not contact us if you are looking to get a free or cheap chinchilla. We are looking for people who understand what is involved in having a chinchilla in their life and are willing to accommodate the needs of the chinchilla.

Adoption requirements: A quality, large metal cage with a large, metal running wheel. Recommended cages are ferret nation followed by critter nation. Recommended running wheels are Chin Spin or the Brytin Chinchilla Exercise Wheel. A high quality pellet, like Science Selective, Mazuri or Oxbow. Unlimited hay. No plastic in the cage! Plastic cage trays need to be covered in non-pill fleece or replaced with metal or wood ledges. Lots of safe things to chew on. A small, reasonable travel cage to take your new chin buddy home. Then, pay the adoption fee, which is used to care for the other chins with food, toys and vet visits when needed. Sometimes we have an extra cage. so let us know if you are in need of a quality, used cage at a reasonable cost.

Adoption Focus: Baxter and Ruby Baxter is a beautiful, black velvet female, 5 y/o. She is mom to Ruby. Ruby looks like (phenotype) a standard grey, but her genes (genotype) is heterozygous dominant allele for grey and recessive allele for violet. Ruby is the offspring of Baxter and Theo, 2 y/o.

These sweet girls do not enjoy being held, but they do let me give them kisses! Ruby likes to play with my earrings and jump up on my shoulder. They both love chin scratches and like to try to nibble on my finger nails. They love out of cage time to explore the room, take oats and other treats from my hand and jump on and off of my legs as I sit and watch them play! They really love goji berries and I’ll give you a goji berry plant to grow your own for them!

I have a new cage with tile bottoms and stainless steel scatter guards and a metal wheel available if you need one. This would be $500, but if you get it with these girls, you can have it for $200.

We highly recommend joining the Facebook group "The Chinchilla Owners Group" as they have numerous files on how to properly care for chinchillas and wonderful experts in the group to ask questions. Most products in pet stores are not safe for chinchillas, even those marketed for them. The best information can be found in the group files.
