Full Size (4/4) Intermediate Violin built in the geometry and dimensions of a Guarneri c. 1744 "Ole Bull" This violin was made by one luthier from beginning to end from all solid wood aged and air dried more than 12 years. This violin would be a great transition up for someone playing a rental instrument or a standard student instrument. Price is firm. I can only accept cash.
The top is medium grained, straight lines, solid spruce; the back is a two piece solid maple with lightly defined medium striation continuing through the ribs. It is finished with a light brown Antique Italian Oil varnish that gives the grain of the wood a satin luster and allows the instrument to breathe. The fittings (pegs, chinrest, button & tailpiece) are of traditional ebony with birdseye ornamentation. It is in "like new" condition. It has been stored in a humidified case.
It has been fitted with new Dominant strings (G, D, A) and a Pirastro Gold Series "Wondertone" E string. It is fitted with a, French built, De Luxe Aubert Mirecourt bridge. I would describe its tone as "balanced, possibly leaning a little to the dark" with "good projection and volume". It has also been set-up standard with a Wittner Stable style fine tuner on the E string. The construction of this violin is such that it will continue to develop an even more full and mature tone as it is played over the next few years. The nut, bridge and sound post were recently adjusted by a local luthier that I trust. It is ready to play.
I am offering it with a student style case, backup strings, backup (summer) bridge, rosin, and a nice quality Brazilwood bow. You are welcome to come by and play it. I also have several other violins that you would be welcome to trial.
