If you want Chickens that pay, that are low maintenance and keep your life hassle free then you need to know some things. Every year People get into chickens and every year People get out of chickens. We all want cheap eggs but If you want your chickens to pay for themselves then you need to understand what breeds will do best in your backyard context. My chickens lay 6 eggs/week even during the winter without heat or light. A dozen high quality eggs with dark orange yolks currently costs me $1.41 to produce. They don't hop my fences, they don't fight, they don't make alot of noise. For $95 I will travel anywhere in the Salt Lake Valley and talk your ear off for 3 hours. You and a friend may come to my house and learn on-site if you wish. Some of the questions you might have What breeds do best in town? What breeds won't hop my fence? How do I care for them when they are born or molting? Do I need to clip their wings? ( I don't) What feed is best? How to save money on feed? What feeds are harmful? ( cheap isn't always cheap) Genetics are a great beginning but Epi-genetics will determine your success. If you want to get a couple of friends or a homeschool group in on the deal then that is even funner.
