Guitar Lessons for the beginner and intermediate student. Rock, Contemporary and Folk styles. I've been playing for 58 years and teaching for over 50 years. I encourage the beginner and novice student to give it a try. I've played both professionally and publically and will teach you the tricks and skills that will help you to understand and advance quickly. I can help you to learn to read music, learn basic and advanced chord structure, fingering speed exercises, techniques, and shortcuts to mastering the guitar. I don't follow a workbook track, instead I help build up on skills you master from week to week which greatly accelerates your learning experience.
I do 45 minute lessons because by the time you get the guitar tuned, review what past assignments progress has been achieved and what needs to be perfected you've used 20-25 minutes of a lesson and there is very little time for new instruction in a 30 minute weekly lesson, thus my 45 minute lesson instead, (Sometimes I use my "prep" 15 minutes of the hour to make sure you are getting the instruction you need). 30 MINUTE LESSONS ARE JUST TOO SHORT TO BE EFFECTIVE AND ONLINE LESSONS ARE TOO AMBIGUOUS AND INCONSISTENT TO GIVE YOU THE PROPER INSTRUCTION NEEDED TO MAKE PROGRESS!
While the technical aspects of playing the guitar are important, if you aren't enjoying the experience or having fun, then most likely you won't continue in the process of mastering the guitar. My goal is not only to help you to learn to play the guitar but to also enjoy the experience of learning to master the instrument. I have a very limited number of openings for now (typically I don't enroll more than 12 students per week ongoing due to weekly prep and assessment that I do on your behalf). There is no need to feel shy or embarrassed, I've taught from 7 up to 71 in age so I know how to help you get better quickly. Typically there are no books to buy so this is an ongoing savings for the student.
Also, keep in mind that I don't switch instructors on you in the middle of your learning experience like many music stores or instructional mills, I am the instructor, I track progress weekly and build on each lesson or technique so you don't waste time and money by having new instructors and repetitive lessons intermittently. My students will typically progress 2 to 3 times faster in the learning curve than most mill grist studios. I will typically supply what you will need including the pick. Rates are very reasonable, 45 minute lesson weekly at $25.00 per lesson. Don't be bashful or shy, give me a call or text me and let's talk about what you're looking for and see if there might be a good fit between us. Wishing you the best and I'm looking forward to hearing from you!
TESTIMONIAL: BLAKE D. When I first started taking guitar lessons with Doug, I was filled with doubts – was I making the right choice? Is this where my time and money should go? Today, I can say with absolute certainty that it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Doug isn't just a guitar teacher; he's a journeyman in the world of music, with over 50 years of strumming, teaching, and living the guitar. His knowledge isn't just profound it's practical, spanning across playing techniques and the nuances of the guitar industry. But what makes Doug truly exceptional is his commitment to his students. He cares, genuinely cares about our progress and success. His teaching style is a unique blend of rigor and patience. Each week, I'm challenged with new exercises that somehow feel tailored just for me. Yes, there are moments I feel overwhelmed, but Doug's method has a way of pushing boundaries while ensuring I'm not left behind. The result? A learning curve that's steep but achievable. What's more, Doug's lessons extend beyond the strings of the guitar. He's a mentor in life, offering advice that resonates well outside the music room. His approach is holistic, fostering not just a guitarist, but a well-rounded individual. Friends and fellow musicians, whom I deeply respect, have looked at my progress and they're impressed. They see what I feel, that under Doug's guidance, I'm on a path to not just playing music, but understanding and feeling it in ways I never thought possible. To anyone dreaming of mastering the guitar, whether it's acoustic or electric, I can't recommend Doug enough. He's more than a teacher, he's a friend, a guide, and an unparalleled mentor in the art of guitar. Trust me, with Doug, you're not just learning to play; you're embarking on a journey to musical greatness.
TESTIMONIAL: CHRIS T: I started on ground zero with no knowledge whatsoever about electric guitars. With that said, Doug has helped me learn so much over the last 2 months and has so much experience with music. He also provides all the learning materials for you to practice over the week. Bonus, he even provides new picks each month. It's been a lot of fun learning the guitar thanks to Doug and his great personality.
