GooglePay($4500 or best offer, shoot me a message I'm open for barganin) I’m selling my 1979 Kawasaki KZ650 D2 SR – a bike I’ve lovingly restomodded over the years. It runs and rides well, and has been an absolute blast to own, and has been garage kept the whole time. While it’s not perfect (see “Issues” below), I’ve tried to preserve its original charm while upgrading all the important things for better performance and reliability. Modifications & Upgrades • Chopped and looped rear frame with integrated LED tail light • Matte black powder-coated frame • Center stand removed • Rear wheel upgraded from 16 to 18 KZ650 C3 wheel (easier tire options) • Custom minimal gauge cluster (speedo only) – tach gear included if you want to reinstall one (will need tachometer) • Racetech Gold Valve fork emulators (turns damper rods into modern cartridge forks) • Upgraded fork springs for emulator compatibility • Pushrod roller kit installed • High-performance clutch springs • Velocity stacks (replaces restrictive airbox) • KZ750 camshafts installed (better power across rev range) • Stiffer valve springs to match cam upgrade • Full LED lighting: headlight (hi/low), turn signals, taillight • Stainless allen bolts swapped throughout (no more stripped Phillips!) • Hella Supertone horn – loud and effective • Integrated bar-end mirrors and handlebar turn signals • Ceramic-coated engine, rims, and forks • Brand-new Metzeler Roadtech 01 tires (~50 miles on them) Recent Maintenance (within the last ~150-200 miles): • Full engine rebuild: o Decked head, lapped valves o Honed cylinders, new piston rings o New crank bearings, bushings, oil seals, and gaskets (including head gasket) o Polished KZ750 cams, valve clearances adjusted • New chain • New tapered steering stem bearings • New clutch friction and drive plates • Cleaned/refreshed ignition points and contacts • New ignition coils • New brake fluid and pads • New rear brake switch • New fork seals, dust covers, and fork oil • New spark plugs • New throttle cable • New swingarm bushings • New handlebar grips • Recent oil change (~10-20 miles ago) • Front and rear wheel bearings rebuilt Extras (included in the sale): • Original 16 rear rim (with old tire) • Tachometer gear (if you want to re-add a tach) • Extra unpainted clutch/chain cover (see “Issues” below) • KZ650 B3 service manual (very similar to D2 model) • Gold Valve emulator tuning guide Known Issues (see photos): • Carburetor needs tuning/re-jetting (bike runs and rides, but could perform better) • Carburetor leaks fuel • Very minor fuel tank leak • Small dents in gas tank • Paint peeling and chips on tank (due to fuel leak) • Crack in current clutch/chain cover (extra included – doesn’t affect function) • Battery works but isn’t strong enough to use the electric starter (kickstart only) • One camshaft cap bolt was helicoiled after being stripped – now stronger than original • The exhaust header has a minor dent in it. It (the exhaust, not the bike) was dropped by the previous owner • Rear peg rubbers are torn Additional Notes: • The original odometer was replaced with a smaller unit; the bike had 25,248 miles on the engine before the rebuild. Current odometer only reflects post-rebuild miles (176 at time of writing). • Custom wiring harness to support LED system Why I’m Selling: I truly love this bike, but I just don’t have the time to tinker with an older machine anymore. As much as I’ve enjoyed the project, I’ve grown tired of dealing with carburetors – too much dark magic for me. It’s time to pass it on to someone who’ll appreciate it as much as I have.
