I've been invested in high end audio for a couple of decades now, and I've gone through oh so many speakers I have lost count, but I have been bitten by the audio bug, and as good as my system sounded, I always felt like there was room for improvement. That was until I found these Monitor audio Platinum 300's. They were my end game speakers and was sure that I was finally cured of my ailments, and all of my chasing the audio dragon. I mean these speakers truly had everything I had been searching for and left little to be desired. The clarity of the micro pleated diaphragm (ribbon) tweeters is absolutely stunning. The look on people's faces when I turn these up is priceless, even people who really aren't all that into audio gear, or Hi-Fi are gob smacked at the sound these produce. They have to be heard to be believed. The bass is so tight, and it goes right through you, the mid's are flawless, and the soundstage impeccable. Both the 10cm midrange and 20cm bass drivers use second-generation RDT cones. RDT II is a composite of low mass skins – C-CAM and carbon – separated by a honeycomb Nomex core.
This material is claimed to combine lightness with rigidity and good self-damping – an ideal blend of qualities for a speaker cone. Monitor Audio claims RDT II is the lowest distorting cone technology in its history. That’s quite some statement. Very dynamic sound without being fatiguing to the ears. Well, my ears anyway, my wife may have other opinions. They are also very aesthetically pleasing with exceptional build and finish. They look like pieces of fine art and are amazing to view even when not in use.
They are everything you would expect from a pair of $16,000 speakers and then some, and I have heard them all. The new iteration of these are going for $19k
So why am I selling? I don't' know, something is wrong with me, I guess. I have a chance to get a pair of $30k speakers for a relatively low price, and I wanted to give them a try.
Okay, are you still with me? Sorry! There is one caveat, if the speakers I want as replacements get sold before these sell. I will take them off the market. I can't ship, as I don't have the original boxes, and they weigh 100lbs a piece! These are serious speakers, and I will audition for serious buyers only please.
Lately I am throwing in for free pair of 10ft Monster Z2 reference bi-wire speaker cables. The best monster ever made! Over $500 value.
