The top is not glued on- but it is perfectly made and fits like a lid on a jar. We can glue it on for you or you or you can take advantage of it being in two pieces to refinishing it. The fact that so many parts are solid wood greatly reduces the off-gassing of formaldehyde, and other harmful off gassing of chemicals from manufactured wood and plastic.
