Armadillidium scaberrimum commonly sold as Sandstone Isopods.

Sandstone isopods are a hardy, beginner-friendly Armadillidium species with a distinctive pale sandy to beige or light gray color and a textured, almost “stone-like” carapace that makes them attractive in clean-up crew colonies and bioactive setups. They are moderately active but generally calm, making them great for terrariums, vivariums, and clean-up crew purposes.

These isopods:\

• Occasionally roll into a ball like other Armadillidium when disturbed\
• Prefer a temperate to semi-arid setup with plenty of cork bark, leaf litter, and moderate humidity\
• Are easy to care for and adapt well to a range of climates\
• Are active eaters and useful decomposers in bioactive systems

• Substrate: moist on one side, drier on the other with hides\
• Food: leaf litter, decaying wood, fish/shrimp pellets, supplemental calcium\
