PRICE DROP #2. This is the best (by far) original TRON listed anywhere currently. Expertly refurbished recently in almost every way, it has had only 1 owner (me), only ever been moved twice, always been protected and indoors. Of the several that can now be found listed on different sites, most of them look beaten up (some badly) and some are modified. See their photos and descriptions thoroughly.
As for mine, it works like the day it was delivered to me way back in 1982, and it’s ALL ORIGINAL, except for the internal components (OEM type) that were replaced recently (lots of time and money spent) during expert refurbishment, described with text on some of my photos, and within the description below.
TRON is highly regarded as one of the best classic arcade games, and THIS one (soon the “crown jewel” of your game room?) will end up being not only one of the survivors, but one of the few anywhere that are so well preserved. It's already rare in this regard, and its value will keep increasing with time. Also, it’s robust and can be played as much as you want along the way (family, visitors, etc.) They will love the “4 games in one” on each level. I’ve never been able to get to the upper levels, even back in the day. It’s challenging and so fun!
If you want more details:
In Fall of 1982 I just started high school, had a job, and decided to actually buy an arcade game (chose a great one!) The $3,000 cost was a lot more than it sounds now, because it was dollars in '82 (e.g., ChatGPT says the average cost of a NEW car back then was under 10K). I had it delivered straight to the better of the two arcades at that time in St George, Utah. It was watched over by the owner and employees, and I went in often to check on it. No problems. After 3 years, I moved it across town to my parents’ basement where I (and nieces & nephews, etc.) could play it for free when visiting!
Recently, after a long period of its not working (solid blue screen) the third TRON movie in theaters motivated me to search with A.I. and make lots of phone calls, spend lots of time (and money) and get my TRON back on track! Here’s what real refurbishing means:
The only possible remaining thing, IMO, are the two big stickers (one on each of the outer side panels) that have some corner and front edge wear from people watching (leaning and holding on) while a friend played it way back when it was in that arcade for its first 3 years. You can order replacement stickers online that look original if you wish, but IMO the original stickers (worn in those ways) help prove that it’s an authentic, vintage machine, and of course it has no effect on playability.
BONUS: A huge 5'x8’ vinyl (thick) banner I got from a Megaplex right after they recently showed the third Tron movie “Tron Ares”! On the other side is “Fantastic Four”.
This big, heavy machine has always been indoors (temperature controlled rooms) and in a dry high-desert climate, and is still there at my parents’ house in Ivins, Utah (near St George). I live in Salt Lake county (Herriman) but drive down often to see my elderly father, so we could arrange a day and time to meet there so you can inspect, and play it thoroughly.
BTW, I also have it listed on Facebook Marketplace (same price as here) and eBay (but the price there is 1,000 more to cover ebay's 13% final value fee, ouch) so you’d save a grand here.
I’ll (finally) end by saying, it could be years before you see another top-condition TRON appear for sale which is (a) expertly refurbished in almost every way, AND (b) has been preserved so well over the years, with original CRT, controls (aiming knob, joystick and trigger), panels, doors, mechanisms, etc. Feel free to send a message if you have any questions.
