This vintage Art Deco console radio is the 1940 Zenith 10S464. It turns on and lights up. It was not tested for sound or reception.
The model 10S464 first appeared in the fall of 1939 and sold into the 1941 model year. This model has some very nice showroom features. The chassis is mounted on springs. Also, it has a heavy flywheel mounted on the tuning shaft, giving the tuning knob a luxurious, heavy-duty feel. When the tuning knob is spun, the momentum of the flywheel keeps it spinning slightly. The "Wave Magnet" internal antenna can be rotated for optimum reception. The chassis is colored in a gold hammer-tone finish.
The set has three bands with band frequency ranges as listed:
Standard AM Broadcast Band...............530 – 1600 kHz
Shortwave Band 1…………..……………1.6 – 5.5 MHz
Shortwave Band 2……………..………….5.5 – 18.5 MHz
The tuning dial is Zenith's vintage signature aviation-style round black dial with a green “magic eye”. The very stylish black dial with its white propeller pointer is very cool and retro. The dial glass is free & clear of any chips or breaks. The audio power amplifier section uses two 6V6 tubes providing plenty of power to the speaker.
The radio stands 41.5 inches tall and is 28.5 inches wide and has a depth o 15.8 inches. It weighs approximately 55 pounds.
This is a high-quality design radio and was the “Cat’s Meow” in its day. Today, this attractive radio is sought after by collectors and is difficult to find.
