(PRICE DROP) You already know how important mic selection is. A tube microphone is valued for its natural warmth, harmonic richness, and smooth, flattering sound that adds character and depth to vocals and instruments in a way solid-state mics typically do not. And as for THIS tube mic (the AT3060) it is VERY hard to find one for sale (I’ll summarize why, down in this description).
Included: This portable/adjustable mic rig consists of 5 products which I bought NEW: Audio-Technica AT3060 TUBE mic, made in Japan (with shock mount, pouch, papers, original box), pop filter, Monster Cable Prolink Performer low-noise mic cable (5 ft.), adjustable mic stand, and a heavy/stable base plate.
Brief history of the AT3060: It is one of the very few true tube condenser microphones ever designed to run entirely on standard 48V phantom power, without an external power supply. Most tube mics require dedicated high-voltage power units, which makes the AT3060 a unique and largely unmatched design in microphone history. Audio-Technica’s engineers and manufacturing (in Japan) did it well. The AT3060 was made and sold from 2003 through the late-2000s or early-2010s. It was discontinued due to the rising production costs and complexity of this niche mic (made in small batches, with hand-selected and aged tubes, etc.). It was NOT because of performance issues. This reliable mic has become a favorite among studio pros, home enthusiasts, etc., who appreciate well-built tube mics and their smooth, warm tone. Also, the fact that it is so hard to get one nowadays (especially a like-new one like mine, which is extremely rare) adds to its appeal.
I used ChatGPT to help me write that history paragraph above, and I also used it to try and find listings for AT3060 online. It only found ONE anywhere (on Reverb) for just the mic "good condition" with none of the accessories it came with (and definitely not the extra items I bought to assemble this rig) and it's a seller in England who is asking 430. Hmm, one listing only? So I started checking manually.. all the well-known sites that sell new and used audio gear, and sure enough, none of them has an AT3060 for sale. Apparently those who have this mic must really like it, because no one seems to want to sell theirs! I’m selling my audio and video gear simply because it’s pointless for me to keep hanging on to great gear without using any of it.
I bought all 5 of these items NEW to assemble this mic rig for what I thought would be a small but capable home studio way back then, but never used this mic beyond initial setup and a few brief recordings from time to time (playback sounded great). I researched mics extensively before choosing this one. It’s so versatile: great for studio vocals (lead & backing) or voiceover work, or if you have a YouTube channel or podcast (etc.) or for acoustic instruments (guitar, etc.) or other detailed instruments (piano, strings). Basically any application where WARM TUBE TONALITY is desirable. It makes a noticeable difference. You probably know that most good tube mics, new or used, are VERY expensive.
I'll (finally) end by saying this mic and the other parts of this rig have always been stored in my parents’ house in the St George, Utah area. I kept my A/V gear there because it’s a dry high-desert climate that’s good to store such things. Very recently I brought it to my place in Herriman (Salt Lake county) with some other items to sell. If you buy more than one of my listings, you'll get an extra discount. Send me a message so we can meet at a public place of your choosing, and you can check out this mic rig. No obligation.
Note: Only cash accepted, locally, no shipping.
