2023 Husqvarna Svartpilen 401
The 2023 Svartpilen 401 is a stylish, capable standard/naked motorcycle that balances urban maneuverability with enough punch for highway or back-road cruising. Its 373cc single-cylinder engine delivers about 44 horsepower (˜ 32 kW) and 37 Nm of torque, giving responsive acceleration off the line and strong mid-range character without being overly aggressive. With a liquid-cooled layout, fuel injection, electric start, and clutch design aimed at reducing rear-wheel hop, it feels modern and usable in a variety of riding conditions.
On the chassis and handling front, the Svartpilen 401 stands out for its nimble feel. The lightweight trellis frame, decent suspension travel (front and rear travel about 142 mm on many spec sources), and quality WP suspension components make it confident over poor pavement, city obstacles, and twisty roads. Braking is solid too, with large front (320 mm) and rear (230 mm) discs, hydraulic calipers, and a modern ABS setup that helps bring a sense of safety and control. The ergonomics—riding posture, seat height, handlebars—lend themselves well to both urban commuting and spirited weekend rides.
That said, there are trade-offs. While it’s versatile, its power is not unlimited—at higher speeds or when fully loaded, it may feel pushed, especially compared to larger bikes. The seat height (˜ 835 mm) means it may be a stretch for shorter riders, particularly in stop-and-go traffic. Fuel tank capacity (~9.5 L) gives reasonable range, but it’s not built for super long touring without planning stops. Also, premium componentry and “stylish” design often come with maintenance demands—filters, brakes, and suspension will need attention, and costs can add up if you ride hard or often.
