Diesel is a well trained western pleasure and English please horse. He has a club hoof with irregularities in the bones that cause some soreness ( can provide X-rays) this is reflective in his price. For this reason I am selling his as a trail horse. However, IMO if you kept him in good shape on the trails, he would do great in the show arena as a side gig.
Diesel loves a lighter youth rider, and will shine for them. I’m 5.3 and 115lbs and we get along great. He’s kind, he’s in your pocket, he’s a gentle giant. He needs consistent riding with a rider with soft hands and fairly experienced. Diesel gets bored if left to sit in the pasture for months on end. He’s also not suited for a small corral, he needs acres to run in and play.
Diesel is a show stopper, he’s flashy, he’s got a big English floaty trot, and a canter to make all the other horses jealous.
He’s middle in the pecking order of my 5 horses. I love this horse, and it hurts my heart to let him go. I’m recently divorced and have worked myself to death to maintain my herd, but it’s in his best interest to get more attention and more consistency than I can offer him.
Diesel loads great in the trailer, stands for the fairer, and ties well. However, he can be herd sour. I always take a companion horse with us for his comfort.
Diesel will need some maintenance, with the club hoof, yearly injections and possibly bute on show days. He must wear shoes with a qualified and experienced farrier. Again, this is reflective in his price.
If you are looking for a kind companion who will take good care of your youth, intermediate rider, he’s your boy.
