Please note: This stud doesn’t turn 2 until the end of May. I wasn’t going to list him until June or July. The only reason I am posting this now is my cousin has been having serious pregnancy complications. All proceeds from now until then will be donated to her family. I will work on posting more pictures of the stud as I get them. I understand it’s early for him hence why the stud fee is so cheap. Come June/July I will increase the fee.
Currently he’s 15.2 hands and 1200 lbs. I anticipate he’ll finish out around 16 hands and around 1400 lbs. We bred him to my sister-in-laws mare in the middle of February. We checked her at the end of March and she caught so he can get it done. I’ll post any pictures of the foals as they come.
We’ve been working with Bo (Quarter/Shire cross) since he was a day old. Tied up to a tree on day 7, halter broke by day 8, laid him down on day 9 and he was following us around the yard looking for neck scratches by day 10. He absolutely loves his neck scratches.
Broke to pack by a year (all the poofy lightweight stuff mostly for practice), broke to pull by a year and a half and I’ve been putting little kids on him since he was 15 months old so breaking him to ride has been a breeze. I don’t expect any issues when I start riding him in June. The video was his first time ever being hooked up. I did zero prep with him. We just hooked him up and he followed what the mule did.
We’ve trimmed his feet since he was a month old so he knows the drill. My husband will go out in the field and he’ll pick his feet up without a halter on and let him clean his feet out without walking off.
I’ve trailered him with mares. No issues. He’s never offered to kick. When he’s with mares then he won’t come to the gate but he’ll let ya walk right up to him and throw a halter on. When he’s not with mares then he’ll come looking for neck scratches.
I mostly tell you how easy he’s been because I expect his foals to be the same way. If you want the same thing we did when we got this guy: good genes from an easy-to-train large in-your-pocket scratch-loving grass-eater, come get your mare bred to this stud.
Live cover only. Mare care is $10/day. If you check her cycle day (picture of vet bill required) and bring her around day 14 then mare care is $5/day. This saves us from guessing and hoping for the best and I’ll breed her till she stops taking. If you want to show up, breed your mare and leave then the stud fee is half. I highly recommend checking what cycle day she’s on if you go this route but I’ve had success with it. I feed my horses cubes so if you aren’t comfortable with that then you can bring your own bales and mare care is a flat fee of $10. I use breeding hobbles to keep my stud from getting kicked. If I can’t get them on because of a lack of groundwork then you’ll get a call to come pick her up.
