The two parts meaning the base and the glass top can be separated, but I have always used it stacked. There are fasteners at the back to keep it secured to each other. There are also lights on the inside to illuminate a glass curio cabinet the three doors on top open and close without any issues and the doors down below do as well. There are shelves in both. The shelves are not adjustable it functions great as a sideboard buffet or as a standalone hutch for storage of all of your kitchen where I have used in my first two homes and just am looking for a change! It is black with some brown burnishing around the edges and knobs. Glass topper 44 inches tall Bottom buffet portion 35 inches.
