This is a public announcement, and I’m sharing a trade secret here that many local scrap companies would likely dislike. Recently, I discovered that local scrap yards typically pay only $20 to $50 for catalytic converters. It astonished me to realize they seem to be relying on prices from 20 years ago. If you remove the catalytic converter from a car, cut off as much of the exhaust piping as possible, weigh it, and take clear photos of every side, you can list it on eBay as scrap metal and often get between $200 to $500 per catalytic converter. As a former mechanic, I was frequently gifted old catalytic converters while doing side work for extra income; needless to say, I wasn't scrapping them at local salvage yards.
