We are looking to rehome our dog, Lenny. We just adopted him in December but they weren’t able to really give us any information about where he came from and his background. We don’t even know what breed he is, but definitely a poodle mix(he doesn’t shed and has curly hair)! We know he’s a little over a year old as well. As far as shelter dogs go, he’s a good dog, he’s just not cut out for our house. We live in a small house with little little kids and are in a very busy time of our lives. He loves the kids but almost to an extreme? He’s very protective of them and gets stressed whenever they are sad or throwing tantrums or will even bark at me if I’m having to get after my toddler for being a toddler(iykyk). You can imagine it can become very chaotic when the baby is crying, the toddler is throwing a tantrum, and the dog is barking. He needs some training but I’m just not really in a place to do it right now. My husband works full time and is also working towards completing his master’s degree and is gone a lot leaving me at home with a dog that needs training, two toddlers, and a baby on the way. I think with some training he would be an incredible dog, we just don’t have the time for it. We think he may have come from an abusive background which is why he’s protective of our kids and himself, but also highly sensitive. He’s on high alert about little sounds around the house and can get defensive if he feels like he’s in trouble. He’s even peed and cowered in front of my husband when he thought he was in trouble, even though my husband wasn’t coming after him in any way. He’s also very wary of strangers at first. He warms up quickly to most though! He responds really well to praise and positive reinforcement especially when he’s in a state of high alert or being trained. He also didn’t do well with a haircut here at home, but he did really well being taken to a professional! He bonded with the girl who cut his hair and she was able to learn how best to work with him and gave him a wonderful haircut, nail trim, and teeth cleaning! He’s super cuddly and will happily jump up onto the couch or bed to cuddle with you. He has a lot of energy too and loves to get out of the house to chase a ball or go for a walk/run! It’s hard for me to take him and the kids on a walk because he pulls(which could be easily trained as well). He loves to play tug of war or just play with his toys around the house on his own too! He knows some tricks and loves to do tricks for treats! He would do well in a home with no children, people that can get him out for walks/runs, no other dogs(we tried to introduce him to my sister’s dog and it did not go over well. But again he could be trained to be around other dogs and be fine.), and with people who will love him and train him with positive words and reinforcement! We have everything you would need for him—food, bed, toys, leash, collar, shampoo, brushes, etc. Because we got him from a shelter he’s also neutered, fully vaccinated, and microchipped(which can be transferred to someone else). You’re probably wondering why we even bothered adopting in the first place and that’s a great question haha! We just love dogs and our kids love dogs as well! We’ve never adopted a dog before and didn’t realize how much work it can be! We feel strongly that Lenny has so much potential and deserves to be in a loving home! Serious inquiries only please!
