Description This rare WWII Military Globe was designed by the Denoyer Geppert Company for the U.S. Navy. Very few of these globes still survive today outside of private collections.
This “Military Globe” was used for WWII wartime campaign planning, and was also an important training tool inside classrooms at the U.S. Naval academy.
It was created to be written on with chalk and then wiped clean in order to plan long-range flight operations, etc.
With its historical significance from the World War II era, this globe offers a glimpse into the past and serves as a valuable and decorative piece for any space.
There are gradations on the equator from 0 at the Prime Meridian, both East and West to 180.
Colors: This tactical chalk globe is generally blue, representing the oceans, while the land masses are represented by black.
Original/Reproduction: Antique Original
Materials: Steel & Cast Iron Base
Circa: Early 1940s
Dimensions: The sphere is approximately 20" in diameter, and 30” tall to include the cast iron base.
CONDITION: Eighty years later, this globe remains in relatively good condition. The painted finish remains nearly completely intact and the stand remains solid and supports the globe well. It is on its original 3-claw-footed iron stand with an iron semi-circular bracket complete with the upper and lower round nuts which are generally missing from known examples.
