Up for grabs is an Old Upstate New York PLANK BOARD HOUSE Timber. It measures variously 2.5” thick x slightly more than 2’ wide x (just less than) 8’ long. The condition AS IS, it is structurally sound with flaws consistent with age. In the deciduous forests of the Northeast, where timber was plentiful, early settlers built structures using standard post and beam construction, but once they had water powered saws to mill the giant trees, they often sheathed buildings with these massive plank boards, variously referred to as “plank board houses.“ During my 30 years in the Finger Lakes Region of New York, I worked on several of these dwellings… fairly easy to install or enlarge window, but hard as heck to run wiring. They simply put clapboards on the outside, and lath and plaster on the inside. I picked up several of these salvaged boards towards the end of the last century, they were not from my own work, and brought this one west with other architectural features. Managed to set this up on a bathroom scale, it weighs 48.4 pounds. This could be heavy handedly fashioned into a table, or remain the museum “show-n-tell” piece as I’ve used it. Asking prices $650, make me an offer if you’re interested..
