Military Pyramidal Tent, M1934 OD, Desert tan
This was the tent that were used as quarters for sailors, airman, marines and troops in the field. Thousands of these tents would make up the majority in what came to be known as "The Company Streets". These tents are authentically made 16'x16'x12' using the well-known odorous treated Od canvas, cotton or manila ropes, authentic metal wire slips, steel center plate, and steel chains, and canvas hood.
I acquired this about 40 years ago, used it a lot for camping and hunting, at one point we had a wooden stove for heat and there is a metal fascia to protect canvas from the Stoves chimney.
Center post is a thick wall 4-inch PVC pipe (2 piece), Corner posts were 1 1/2-inch wooden polls, I don’t that them anymore. It has the canvas hood to cover the top of the post.
In hot weather the sides will roll up and you can open the top cap to vent any hot air.
In the time I’ve had the tent I have waterproofed it twice. Unfortunately, I have not been able to use the Tent for about 15 years it has been stored in a dry cool basement to prevent any damage. The tent has A tag on the inside showing what it was repaired. I believe that was in 1940 something. There are no rips, tears or damaged although ropes are intact.
It’s time for someone else to use this tent, I hate to see it just sit and not being enjoyed. It will fit you and all of your friends for a great time out of the weather or out of the sun.
Characteristics:
a. This tent is 16 feet wide, 16 feet long and 11 feet high.
b. The floor space is 256 square feet.
c. The top, side walls, and all reinforcements are made of 12.29-ounce duck and the sod cloth is made of 9.85-ounce duck. This tent comes in one section.
d. It has a peak height of 12 feet 3 inches and a wall height of 4 feet 2 inches. This gives a pitch of 8 feet 1 inch.
e. It has one door in the wall which is cut back into the roof. This door is 28 inches wide, 8 feet high, and is double-lapped.
f. It is ventilated by a center pole opening which has an adjustable hood or cover. The sides of the tent may be rolled up and the door opened when added ventilation is needed.
