GooglePayAussiedoodle (2 yrs, 18 lbs) – Looking for the Right Active Home
I’m reluctantly looking for the right home for my dog Cocoa due to health issues and a recent move from a large off-grid property to an apartment. He needs a lifestyle I unfortunately can’t give him right now.
Location: Lehi Utah
Cocoa is a 2-year-old Australian Shepherd / Poodle mix (Aussiedoodle).
He weighs about 18 lbs and is roughly 14 inches at the shoulder
He is very affectionate, playful, and extremely people-oriented. He sleeps next to me on the bed and wakes up with snuggles and kisses. He bonds deeply with his owner and loves being part of everything you’re doing.
Personality & Activity Level
Cocoa is high energy and very athletic. He thrives in active environments.
He’s used to:
• Long hikes and trail time
• 2–8 mile bike rides a few times per week
• Being outdoors exploring and running
He has been raised mostly outdoors on 2.5 acres in an off-grid environment, so he is happiest with space and daily activity.
He is also rattlesnake avoidance trained and certified.
A home with a fenced yard, land, or daily outdoor activity is important for him.
Temperament
• Good with other dogs
• Good with adults and kids
• Fine around cats
• No history of aggression
He can get excited and jump up on people when greeting, so continued training would help.
With new dogs he can sometimes try to hump or lick initially, but this usually settles down after he is corrected or adjusts.
He is generally friendly and social everywhere he goes and has even been to festivals with loud music and fireworks without issues. He's mostly obedient, comes when called
Barking
He is not a constant barker when he’s with me.
However, he will join in barking if other dogs are barking, so he can mirror that behavior in multi-dog environments.
Separation Anxiety (Important)
Because he has always been with me traveling or outdoors, he currently has pretty bad separation anxiety.
If left alone inside for every short periods he can bark, howl or panic, especially if left in a crate. He does not tolerate crate confinement right now.
He would do best with someone who:
• Works from home
• Is around often
• Has other dogs for companionship
• Has a yard where he can spend time outside
A home where he is alone all day would be unsuitable for him.
House Training & Crate
• House trained when monitored in new environments, can use a dog door or stand by door to go out
• Sometimes marks initially in new places if not corrected early
Health
• No known medical issues
• Vaccinations are due (needs rabies and his 2-year boosters)
• Not neutered
Food
He is somewhat picky and is used to Freshpet-style fresh food mixed with quality kibble or freeze-dried food. He doesn’t do well on kibble alone.
Comes With Everything
He will go with all of his supplies:
• Crate
• Dog bed
• Bowls
• Grooming supplies & shampoo
• Sweaters
• Vest
• Toys
• Two months of Freshpet frozen food
• Two bags of dog food
Ideal Home
The best situation for Cocoa would be someone who:
• Lives an active lifestyle
• Has space for him to run or a fenced yard
• Is home most of the time
• Possibly has another friendly dog (he loves to wrestle larger dogs)
Finding the Right Home
Cocoa is a really special dog and this is not an easy decision for me. I want to make sure he goes somewhere that truly fits his personality and energy level, and won't let him go unless I feel really good about it.
Because of that, I’d love to meet the potential owner and see where he’ll be living to make sure it’s the right match for everyone.
A reasonable rehoming fee applies to ensure a committed and responsible home.
If you’re interested, feel free to reach out and tell me a little about your home, lifestyle, and any dogs you have.
