Meet Gus — A Smart, Spirited Mini Golden Looking for His Perfect Match
Gus is an 8-month-old mini golden retriever with a ton of potential and a whole lot of love to give — he just needs the right home to help him shine. He’s a handsome light tan boy who we expect to mature at around 35–45 pounds.
Gus was previously placed with a family, and while they had the best of intentions, he wasn’t given the structure and consistency a young dog needs to thrive. Without clear boundaries, he developed some behaviors that made him a poor fit for that household. When he came back to us, our professional trainer evaluated him and determined that his challenges were rooted in his environment — not in him. With structure, clear expectations, and follow-through, Gus has been doing well.
Gus has shown us he is a crate-trained, people-loving boy who genuinely wants to do the right thing when he understands what’s expected of him. He’s engaged and thrives on human connection.
A few honest notes about Gus:
He does have a stubborn streak — he’s smart and will absolutely test whether the rules still apply today. This isn’t a flaw, it just means he needs someone who can be calm, consistent, and confident in their leadership. He respects it, and once he knows the expectations are firm, he settles right in.
While Gus has been doing well with other dogs in our care, we’ve received reports of some dog-to-dog challenges in his previous home. Because of this, we’d recommend he go to a home as the only dog, at least initially, so he can bond with his people and build confidence without the added pressure of navigating another dog’s space.
We’ve also received reports that Gus struggled around young children in his previous home. We believe this ties back to the same need for structure and clear boundaries. For this reason, we are requiring a home with no young children.
Who is Gus’s ideal family?
Gus needs someone with prior dog ownership experience who understands that dogs thrive with boundaries, structure, and consistency. He’s a dog with personality and drive, and in the right hands, that’s a wonderful thing. If you know what it takes to provide calm, confident leadership for a young dog who’s still learning, Gus could be an incredible companion.
What we’re offering to set Gus (and you) up for success:
Gus comes with complimentary training support from the professional trainer who worked with him when he returned to us. This includes guidance during the initial transition into your home as well as ongoing support as you and Gus build your relationship together. We are invested in making sure this placement is the right one — for him and for you.
Interested?
We’d love to have a conversation with you about Gus. We’re happy to share more about his history, his personality, and what day-to-day life with him looks like. Reach out to us to start that conversation — we want to make sure Gus finds his forever home this time around.
