This here is Opie. He is a 9 year gelding that we have had for about 3 years now. This guy loads and backs out of the trailer great, stands tied, and stands for the farrier. Opie does not bolt and is not a bucker. As far as his demeanor, he is a really mellow horse that doesn't spook at much of anything. With that being said, he will need an intermediate rider or confident beginner at the very least. He gets very pushy on the ground or will try to head back to the trailer to be done if he has a rider who is not assertive. He will get out and move but prefers not to. The video I have him in a snaffle but he is normally rode in a shank. I would say his neck reining is okay, he is not heavy in the mouth and responds to leg pressure good. He is not fancy trained for any one event. We have taken him to many shows (cow, speed and show events) and he has been taken on many trail rides including moving cows. He is not a fan of cows. Is willing to move out and push them but balks sometimes when a cow decides to challenge him. We did have to do some corrective shoeing to build his heels back up. He is set up great but will always need shoes and a good farrier to keep him set up properly.
He had surgery on his knee before we purchased him. This was for chips in his left knee that the vet said was likely caused from impact back in his racing days. During the first 2 years we had him, there was no indication of pain and it never showed up till last year. The knee was x-rayed and showed mild inflammation. We keep him on about 1/4 pill of previcox ONLY when he is being ridden hard(long trail rides and shows). We do not give him it every day.
