I know this ad is a long shot. Minus the plywood back, these quintessential 80s pieces are constructed of solid oak. Not solid "wood," solid oak. All flat boards are 3/4 thick. See side profile pic. Not a drop of veneer anywhere. Just above the drawers there's a pullout platform. Someone paid Boyd Furniture Company a LOT of money to make this custom pair of wardrobes. They are beautifully constructed. In the 80s, companies willing to build with solid oak were rare. At scale, no one. I don't know if this style is sought after and haven't even tried to think of a price. I design/build furniture and, as much as it pains me, if no one is seriously interested I'm going to harvest them for the old growth oak. Unmilled, that amount of oak is worth multiples of hundreds. I've got a mission style base from an antique oak tallboy. All it needs is a top. Harvesting just one of the wardrobe sides, allows me to convert it into a very cool 2 drawer coffee table or chest.
The attached pic is the only piece by Boyd I could find listed. Obviously, I'm not expecting to get anything near that price for these. I just don't want to disrespect the exceptional work and commitment of the artisans that made these. If interested, feel free messsge me. Maybe we can work something out? I'm always open to trades as well. Especially tools. I build using wood and metal. Cheers
I'm getting enough response on these wardrobes that I feel I should actually attach a price. If you've looked at the price of rough sawn oak these days you'll better understand where I'm coming from. With that, I'll take 600.00 for the pair. My guess it's that's more than most are willing to pay but less than the unmilled oak boards would cost me.
The measurements are: 77" tall x27"wide x17.75"deep.
Just received a question re hanging clothes in the top. The answer is yes. Before I gave myself permission to harvest the oak, I'd planned on installing hanging rods. In fact, the original use was as a closet substitute. House value considerations led to my building a permanent closet.
