"Sarge" – 11-year-old Red Roan Grade Gelding I purchased Sarge when he was just 18 months old from the gentleman who bred him, and he has been with me ever since. He is believed to be sired by Little Smarty Pepto (though I have no papers to verify this).
As a younger horse, he was used for a variety of ranch work. For the past 5–6 years he has primarily been a solid ranch and trail horse. My wife has been riding him most of the last 2 years.
He has also been used to move cows, including with my 6-year-old in the saddle (in hindsight, maybe not my smartest decision).
He has roped hundreds of calves over the years and is a dependable, versatile horse.
Sound Stands well for the farrier (trim scheduled soon) Good on trails Not suitable as a kids’ horse except for quiet trail riding. A confident teen would be just fine.
His biggest flaw is that he can be pretty buddy sour.
I do not need to sell him, but I have too many young horses coming up.
15 hands. 1150ish pounds.
Asking $6,000
