GooglePayVintage Navajo rug with a strong geometric layout with a central diamond and cross form, stepped terracing, and what is often described as a lizard or lightning style motif, a dynamic design element seen in Western Navajo weavings. The overall composition has excellent visual balance and strong contrast.
The color palette includes red, black, gray, and natural wool tones, giving it a classic Southwestern look that works well both as a floor piece or wall hanging.
Size is approximately 64 by 38 inches. Handwoven wool. Likely Western Navajo, circa 1920s to 1930s. Early trade rug.
Condition: This rug shows significant age and use. There is edge wear with fraying in areas, loss to the fringe, minor staining and discoloration, and some yarn loss along the edges. The center remains intact and the piece still displays well. It would make a good candidate for stabilization or light restoration, or can be used as-is for display. Note the blue marker markings.
Please review all photos carefully for condition and details.
Early Navajo rugs with bold geometric designs and regional character continue to be sought after by collectors and interior designers.
