Excellent QLED television. Spotless condition and flawless function. Makes an excellent anchor for a fine home theater.
In a review when this unit was new, PC Magazine said, “The Samsung Q90R series combines remarkable contrast with excellent color performance out of the box for one of the best pictures you'll find on an LCD TV.” That review called it “Samsung's flagship TV” and placed the original price at $3499.
The PC Magazine article describes a special feature that I still love: One Connect. Instead of plugging all of your devices and a power cable into the TV itself, everything is handled by the separate One Connect box that plugs into the back of the Q90R through a single, thin wire. The One Connect box is a gunmetal plastic slab about the size of a cable or satellite box, with all of the Q90's ports and most of its electronics… it's designed to be tucked in a cabinet.” And I bought (and you can have) the then-expensive, proprietary, extension cable that allows you to stow the One Connect box in a cabinet across the room from the TV itself. No long, expensive cable runs except for the almost invisible One Connect cable. The last photo in this ad shows the One Connect box in my AV cabinet.
One other unusual, cool feature: a built-in app called Ambient. This allows you to select a color, presumably to match the color of the wall behind the TV. You have complete control over the shade and the brightness, the idea being that instead of having a big black rectangle on your wall when you’re not watching the TV, you can match the wall in a way that makes the screen almost disappear. As a brochure said, “to help the QLED 65 inch smart TV blend in with your home décor, an ingenious Ambient Mode allows you to customize the screen with meaningful images for a perfectly natural effect, including décor patterns and lighting, info, photos and artwork.”
As a QLED, this TV displays much better blacks and darks, for excellent contrast, sharpness, and color overall. And being a QLED and using pixel shift and other methods, it prevents the burn-in that affected earlier OLEDs. (The attached photo shows the TV displaying a graphic I grabbed from the internet; this is a QLED, not an OLED.)
I’m also selling a Sony AV receiver and a Definitive subwoofer that have matched this TV very nicely. Check out my other ads here on KSL. If you buy all three units, or even just two, I can give you a small discount. Just add speakers, and you’ll have a fine home theater. (I’m keeping my KEF’s. Drop me a line and I’ll recommend the models.)
