THESE BALLOONS AREN’T GOING TO BLOW THemselv….” They look down at their hand. “Wait what is this?” They see their fist clenched around a soft neon bowling pin shaped head with eyes and a nose popped out of its face. “Panic Pete, eh?” Their fist keeps pumping around the neck of Panic Pete, slightly crinkling the tag that proclaims Pete’s name.
“Suddenly things don’t seem so bad after all. Maybe things are actually getting back to normal,” they mumble. Fist pumping. Eyes popping.
“Yes! Everything is right as rain,” they say a little too loudly. “Yes! Yes! It’s just the bees knees!”
“Give me the best balloons you got,” they say to the teen at the register. “The full nine yards.” And at that moment, life really did seem a little better than it did just a few minutes ago. “Here kid, keep the change. Put it in your vocational college savings fund.”
And Pete stared blankly, eyes bulged with tag tattered slightly, waiting to be squeezed again. If Pete could think, he would agree. Life really did seem a little better than it did just a few minutes ago.
