VERY HONEST POST MAKE AN OFFER HAPPY TO ENTERTAIN TRADES

I am being very honest in this post because he's not going to work for what we need and I want him to still be able to be used, so with that being said, this guy could still be great for a small adult or a leadline horse for young kids or with his unproblematic demeanor he would be a great companion horse.

We were searching for a horse that my daughter could transition to from her 37" mini and a family in Texas reached out to me and sent us info on this guy and the first thing I loved was his size. My daughters are both very small so we knew we wanted something on the shorter end. Also did not want another pony, so was also happy to see he was registered AQHA. He was advertised as been there-done that and did barrels, poles, and goats, for the family's daughters for 12 years. They never did any maintenance on him and they always had him barefoot. We were very excited about him and him shipped to us from Texas.

At first everything seemed great. The haulers were literally crying telling us about how the family was all so sad and crying when they came to pick him up. He settled right in and was just a pleasure to live with. We took him out a couple times and my daughter could practice on him and he seemed just like a good old boy for the first couple times we took him out. Went to the arena about three weeks after getting him and noticed he was off on his right front and he also was just generally giving a lot of attitude. Chocked it up to him being sore so we took him to the vet and did a good lameness exam-once over and didn't find an obvious cause of him being off. His X-rays show navicular changes that the vet said look like wear and tear and X-rays of his back showed several areas of kissing spine that have developed with his age so we injected his back and the vet said he would probably benefit from having his coffin joint injected in the future. I was only ever sent videos of him being ridden/loped at the junior rodeos so I have no idea if he was off with his previous family and because of his age they just didn't worry about it or what.

Took him to my daughters junior rodeo last week and he was agitated in the warm up pen, wanting to go back to our other horse and generally just was testing her the whole time. Not wanting to stand still and constantly pushing against the bit. Then the run was also not good. He went around the first barrel twice and then drifted too the in gate going to the second so they didn't finish. My daughter was not being her normal confident self and was aggitated as well so again I chocked it up to them to just having a bad day and not being in sinc even though their practice runs the day before were great. Messaged the lady we got him from and she said he's probably just testing my daughter and gave us some tips on fixing it. We continued to work him all week with ZERO problems. Went to a jackpot yesterday and he did his two time onlys like a SAINT and then on the actual race bucked hard from the middle of the arena all the way back to the ingate which obviously has now really hurt my daughters confidence and I no longer trust the horse. Messaged the previous family and they were shocked and said they had never ever seen him doing that before. Needless to say, he is not going to work for us and my daughter. I have no idea what we did/doing wrong. By all accounts we have been doing more than the previous family, but I think he just has my small daughter's number now and has decided he's not going to perform for her.

So, do I think that an older kid could get him going just like he was doing with his previous family, yes. Do I know that for sure? No.
