AQHA registered as Cool Bobbie Socks, this gorgeous mare’s pedigree comes out of a line of world champion halter horses Cool Crusin Skip out of Ima Cool Skip.. She was born February 12, 2007 so she just turned 19 years old. We purchased her in 2022 and we have enjoyed many trail miles on her since then. She delivered an incredible colt for us April of 2024 and was such a gentle mother, taking good care of her baby and was super patient with us being around her and her foal. She lives a good life right now on a horse property in Lindon, enjoying time in the pasture or in the barn during inclement weather and gets out for a trail ride about 3-4 times a month. We are looking for an owner who can provide the kind of love, care, and accommodations that we have given her.
The Good:
- Absolutely gentle
- No buck, no bite, no kick, no bolt
- Easy to shoe, saddle, load in a trailer, catch, walks behind you without getting into your personal space, no issues getting shots, stands tied, hobbles, high-lines, etc.
- Not bothered by dogs, mountain bikes, cars, etc.
- Packs - We have packed a deer, an elk, and camping gear on her without any problem whatsoever. Ponies really nicely.
- We can say confidently that you can put anyone on her and they will be safe. We have put lots of kids on her, even multiple kids, and she has been gentle.
- Was, and still could be, an excellent brood mare
- She is the same horse whether she was ridden last week or last year. We didn’t ride her for about 12 or 14 months while she was in her last months of pregnancy and several months after delivering her foal and when we saddled her up again to begin riding her, she was totally fine.
Health Concerns:
- She has Fibrotic Myopathy, which is a mechanical lameness characterized by a “goose-stepping” gait in her back end where the leg swings forward and then snaps down abruptly. It would be very comparable to tight hamstrings in humans. The vet says it does not cause her pain and we have confirmed through observation that it doesn’t bother her as we have used her significantly since she developed the condition. It doesn’t seem to bother her on the trail or even at a nice, slow lope. Not sure how it developed - she hasn’t had any trauma since we have owned her.
- A few years ago, while on a trail ride, she stepped in a hole hidden by some grass and injured her front right leg. The vet did some imaging on it and couldn’t really see anything wrong with it. Depending on use and temperature (weather), she still seems to be affected by it. It does loosen up once you get her out on the trail and moving.
If you have made it this far in the advertisement, we will tell you that we are willing to give this mare to you for FREE if you can demonstrate that you meet the following criteria.
- We want her to go to someone who has a horse property rather than someone who needs to board her somewhere.
- Must have the appropriate expectation on how you are going to use her. She is good for trail rides 3-4 times a month of up to about 5 miles per ride. She doesn’t lead out well but just follows the horse in front of her. She is slow so you kind of have to trot her to catch up depending on how quickly the horse in front of her walks out.
- We don’t want someone to try to flip her for a few hundred dollars.
- Must be willing to keep her in shoes, keep her up to date on shots, and deworming.
As much as we love this mare, we just can’t ride her as hard and as long as we need to ride her. Her colt is now under saddle and we will be spending the next couple of years focusing on riding and developing him and our other horse.
We are available if you have any questions. We are not in a hurry to get her to a new home. We just want to feel like she is going to a good situation. Our property is in Lindon, UT.
