1972 Norton Commando 750 Roadster. Purchase will include an itemized list of all components purchased for this restoration. Will provide $23,000 in actual total restoration costs to date.
Might consider trade for classic or muscle car or PU.
This Norton Commando just completed a 19-month FULL Frame Up RESTORATION by Idaho’s most awarded motorcycle restorer and multiple Norton motorcycle owner. Rod Ransom. Meticulous restoration!
May consider a full or partial trade for a classic car or PU. Text photos and description of what you have to trade. Sorry no joy rides without endorsement and $ in hand.
Rod would only use polished stainless-steel fasteners on all accessories to eliminate future rusty bolts and nuts.
Everything on this motorcycle is either new or rebuilt to exacting standards. The engine utilizes the high compression Combat cylinder head, and you will notice the high compression when you kick start this engine.
Full engine and transmission rebuild. Engine was balanced. Runs and shifts perfectly. Tremendous acceleration. Note the front brake is the desirable double leading shoe with the air scoop. Excellent braking front and rear.
New pistons, new Barnett alloy clutch friction plates, new bearings, seals, gaskets. Wheels are polished stainless 19” from the UK with Buchannan spokes. Tires are new Dunlop’s in the original size. Road Holder forks rebuilt and polished. New shocks in rear with correct polished stainless knob/shock knurled fasteners.
Brand new Amal 32MM carbs with titanium velocity stacks. Also have new K&N air filters. Comes with correct oils and lubes shown in pic.
All Isoelastic rubber is new including rear wheel cush drive rubbers. Make the Norton virtually vibration free almost. Extremely smooth ride.
Gas tank and side covers are new and are silver metallic with black and red accents. Seat is new with Norton logo. It has the desirable grab bar for use of center stand.
Exhaust is brand new pea shooter mufflers (seamless). Some believe the Norton has the best exhaust note of all English motorcycles.
6-volt system upgraded to 12V including 12V coils, Headlight is the upgraded Lucas H4 conversion for a much brighter headlight. 12-volt Tri-Spark solid state electronic ignition to replace the problematic original Lucas.
Odometer shows 164 miles. Actual miles about 300 see comments.
Custom wiring harness wired by Luke. All hidden and superior to original Lucas harness. Does not have turn signals but is wired for them and has hand controls for turn signals. New 12V battery with battery tender connection and trickle charger for winter maintenance.
Front and rear chrome mudguards/fenders are new.
Gauge holder is a polished aluminum Café Racer style. Gauges are aftermarket although they look original. Tachometer registers up to 8k RPM and Speedometer registers up to 150 MPH. The speed sensor on the rear wheel is not the correct ratio and as a result the speedometer reflects lower speed and miles. Odometer says 164 miles, but not accurate. Only break in miles on new engine. At 20 MPH you are traveling at about 35 according to GPS. The wheel sensor ratio needs to be updated to match the speedometer for accurate speed and miles.
All aluminum polished to show quality standard.
Norton UK new 7/8” high roadster handlebars (higher/wider stainless). All cables are new. Shifts perfectly!
New bullet or beehive rear taillight assembly with Colorado Norton Works license plate bracket. Note the Norton script license plate bolts.
Frame is powder-coated for durability in gloss black pewter.
Includes a New York Custom swing arm repair kit that keeps the rear swingarm from wearing and allowing wobble.
No disappointments with this Norton. Almost everything on it is new except for the rebuilt engine, transmission and frame.I’m 74 and this is the first and only Norton I have ever owned. This is a very high-quality restoration, and I invested way more than expected, but it turned out to be stunning. I have owned and ridden over 100 motorcycles in my younger years. This is my favorite by far, but I have invested way too much in the restoration and I do not have the riding confidence I used to. I am learning what an old man can and can’t do.
