Authentic & Impressive African Power Figure / Fetish Object This is an incredibly unique and impressive piece of African tribal art, carved from dark wood and adorned with various materials. This type of figure is often identified as a Power Figure, Fetish Object, or Nkisi (a term commonly associated with the Kongo/Luba peoples of Central Africa, though figures like this are found across many cultures). This large figure stands approximately 28-30 inches tall (as indicated by the measuring tape in the photos) and commands attention with its powerful stance and intricate details. Key Features of the Figure: Dark Hardwood Carving: The figure is expertly carved, showing a standing human form with exaggerated hands and feet. Central Cavity: The figure is shown holding a prominent, rounded form with a central cavity or opening. This opening, often called the "belly" or "container," is a characteristic feature of many power figures where special ritual substances (called bilongo) would have been placed to activate the figure's spiritual power. Binding and Adornments: The neck, waist, and other areas are heavily wrapped with thick rope and natural fiber bindings, which appear to have remnants of a blue pigment embedded in them. Face and Head Details: The figure has a dramatic facial expression and is adorned with what appears to be brass tacks or small metal pieces around the eyes, temples, and mouth, adding to its potent aesthetic. A tall, textured, coiled projection (possibly a horn or stylized hair form) rises from the top of the head. Attached Materials: The back of the figure features various attached items, including large, organic-looking seed pods or carved wooden elements hanging from rope, and pieces of coiled fiber/hair-like material attached to the back and head. Patina and Condition: The wood has a deep, aged patina, showing signs of wear and handling consistent with its age and use as a functional, ritual object. Please examine all photos closely, as they are the best representation of the figure's condition, age, and unique materials. Dimensions: Height: Approximately 28 - 30 inches Width (at widest point/hands): Approximately 8 inches (Please see close-up photo with measuring tape.) This piece would be a significant addition to any collection of African art, primitive art, or tribal sculpture, serving as a unique and powerful cultural statement. Ships well-packaged and insured. Note: The origin and exact tribal affiliation are unknown and not guaranteed. This is sold as a genuine, vintage work of folk/tribal art, likely from Central or West Africa.
