I made this. I’ve been sewing since I was 8 or 9 maybe? My mom and I went to one of those fancy wedding gown salons and I tried on this dress that I loved. They wouldn’t even let you bring cameras into the salon. So we looked at all the details and wrote them down for this Italian gown whose base price (in 2002) was $5,000. And then we went home and proceeded to recreate it with about 10 yards or so of cream dupioni silk and hundreds of beads and lord only knows how much tulle. The gown has wide double box pleats at the waist to give it its fullness (there is a crenilin- I know, I totally botched that spelling). There’s a bronze detail at the waistline and I sat at my desk job answering phones and sewed each and every one of those beads onto the bodice. The back of the dress has a unique peekaboo feature where there is shiny tulle specifically that shows. Think of an apron that overlaps in the back kind of thing. Anyhoo… here we are some 20 or so years later. If you’re looking for a really special gown for your special day, you’ll have one that really is on par with what you find in that fancy bridal store in Holladay but without the high price. My hope is that it will find a good home and have another wonderful day of celebration. No gown like this should ever just be used once, you know?
