Meet Hildago! He is an AMAZING quarter horse that I can put anyone on! My beginner kids (ages 6 to 13) ride him on trails and in the arena. I've had my beginner older mother-in-law on him too. He's my go to when I have someone who doesn't know how to ride. He has more woah than go, but he will speed up the pace if asked. He is about 15 hands tall, but i havant actually measured him.
He loves to follow the other horses, and so I usually put him right behind me or another horse. He will take the lead if asked, but definitely prefers to follow. He can act a little buddy sour (tries to turn back around, won't go forward, nothing really bad) if you try to walk away from his horse buddies on the trail, but i have ridden him out alone he does just fine!
I've taken him camping several times and he is a dream on the hi-line.
Crosses over water with ease, goes though deadfall and rocks with no issues. Doesn't spook. Really watches his feet.
Because he is grade, I don't know his exact age, but my vet thinks he's around 22 to 23ish. He doesn't have any health issues, but he does tend to stay on the thinner side (not super thin, just thinner). He can have runny poop at times. I've talked to my vet about it, and he just thinks its due to his age and not fully pulling out the water all the way. I have my farrier trim just the heel on his back feet as his back feet can have the tendency to look a little club footed if not, but if you keep up on trimming you can't even notice and he's never been lame.
Hes always been the bottom of the totem pole with my horses. He gets along great my horses, but can be pushed around.
The only reason I'm selling him is my kids have told me they aren't interested in riding any more. I'm sad to see him go!
