VenmoPlease note as you read this- we would not be attempting to rehome Captain except that he truly is a wonderful, affectionate, and intelligent dog and will make a perfect companion animal in an adult only home. If we did not have children, this dog would be my companion for life.
We are looking for a very specific home for our dog. This is a hard decision, but it's being made carefully and with safety as a top priority.
Captain is an intelligient, affectionate, people-loving dog who bonds strongly with his family. He is very trainable, eager to work, and has great potential for structured activities like obedience or agility training. In a calm, adult environment, he is attentive, engaged, and a genuinely enjoyable companion. Captain is a Collie/Schnauzer mix.
He love people in general and enjoys being around them and interacting with them. He is friendly and social and does best when he has clear structure and expectations. He has excellent obedience on a leash and loves to train new skills and tricks.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INFO: PLEASE READ
He has a history of three biting incidents involving children.
-One incident involved a child walking past our home (with no interaction with Captain)
-Two incidents involved children on swings.
-None of the bites broke skin, but they were still bite events.
Because of this histroy, we will not be placing Captain in a home with children, including visiting grandchildren or frequent child exposure.
He is not a "problem dog" in a general sense- he is a dog who does very well with adults but has shown clear, unsafe behavior specifically around children, so his placement must reflect that reality.
Captain will be available for rehoming after 06/13. Rehoming fee will be donated to a local dog shelter.
