Venmo35 lbs. 4 years old. Spayed. House-trained. Highly loving. History of seperation anxiety (previous owner) that could resurface if not managed appropriately. (We'll give you the tips. She's done well here and has shown dramatic improvement from when she got here!)
Lucy is our happy-go-lucky girl! She has medium exercise needs and is a people-person... or.. uh.. dog! You might call her a "velcro dog." She LOVES to snuggle and will follow people around hoping they will sit down so she can sit on their feet and get pets. She has been great with our little kids and she has been an ambassador to cousins that visit our house and are "scared of dogs." (We introduce them to Lucy to show them dogs can be gentle and sweet).
Sometimes when my kids are upset or anxious, I send Lucy into their room to lay down by them and help them calm down. My kids love hugging her until they fall asleep. I think she likes it too, becauses afterwards I often have a hard time convincing her to come OUT of their room.
She is very loving and openly affectionate, but she picks "her person" that she prefers more than anyone else. She follows "her person" around like a little shadow, finding a comfortable spot on the floor in whatever room they finally land in. When she's lucky, she might get permission to get up on a couch and you can tell she feels like she is living the high-life!
But honestly, she's pretty easy to make happy; the recipe to make Lucy happy is some pets, some pats, the privilege of cleaning up the floor after the baby eats (dog-safe foods only of course), and maybe a walk, a car ride, or a game of fetch to round out the day! And her perfect day? That would be a rainy day snuggled up in a blanket right next to you (or on you. Personal space does not exist.) while you watch movies all day!
She's easy to groom. She's respectful of the house (but does like to counter surf or dump garbage cans if food is left unattended). She's NOT easy to walk, sadly. She likes to go on walks, but wants to say 'Hi' to EVERYONE and EVERYTHING and becomes very excited and hard to reign-in. I've taught her an "attention" command that helps with people passerby's, but she gets too overexcited when she sees dogs. Her recall is good, as long as there aren't other dogs or cats: Then her recall is terrible.
Vacations can be tricky. With her seperation anxiety history, the two solutions we've found that work best are to have her stay at the house of another dog-savvy person or leave her at OUR house with doors closed to the rooms we don't want her in. Then we have someone come feed her and let her out 2-3 times a day. WE WOULD BE HAPPY to watch her free-of-charge anytime her new owners go on vacation, as long as we are available AND the new owner can provide proof of current vaccinations. (We're just happy to stay in touch!)
Speaking of, she is due for rabies by the end of July. She is due for the other vaccines in November. We also keep her on a heartguard shot once a year as we live in a mosquito-heavy area and she has always been dewormed regularly. No known allergies or food sensitivities. She is genetic tested through Wisdom and is clear (we will include that paperwork alongside her AKC and CKC registrations.)
She's highly athletic and will do best with a high-fence backyard. Our backyard is a 5 foot perimeter fence with a 3.5 foot "dog run" fence dividing off the dogs' free-play area from the rest of the yard. Lucy jumps in and out of the 3.5 foot inner dog fence with ease. A couple of years ago we moved anything that she could use as a "springboard" away from the 5 foot outer fenceline and she hasn't jumped the 5 ft fence since.
She will do fine in just about any home, as she is very adaptable, but we are loosely looking for a home that has at least one person home most of the time, since we know that human companionship is what really fills up Lucy's cup.
Lucy has been part of our breeding program (a superstar btw!) and is now retired! (congrats, Lucy!) The strictest we ever are on owners for dogs is for our own retired mama-dogs. A high-quality home is our number one priority (for all dogs, but especially mama-dogs), so we'd love to hear more about YOU and we will be asking a rehoming fee to ensure she makes it into a high-quality home. We are not in a rush, so take your time thinking and asking us questions. In the meantime, she's a sweetheart and I will enjoy all the Lucy snuggles I can get!
