PayPalA fine old 4/4 German violin bow of handsome appearance and superior quality. Stamped “GERMANY” to the underside of the stick. c 1920 - 1930. Although the maker’s name to the side has become indistinct through honest wear and can no longer be confidently read, the workmanship throughout clearly indicates a bow of a better grade than the ordinary commercial examples commonly encountered.
The stick is fashioned from beautifully figured dark red-brown pernambuco of excellent character, finely shaped and elegantly finished throughout. Mounted in silver wrap, the ebony frog is well made with tasteful proportions, while the ebony button retains its cap and ebony collar.
An especially rewarding playing bow, offering a warm, resonant tonal quality together with refined balance and handling. Responsive and comfortable in the hand, it possesses the qualities sought by advancing players and professionals alike.
