VenmoClassic, professional grade, studio series, Lockerbie Model K "motorized" pottery kick wheel. Brand new it is $2399 (plus shipping and tax) BUY THIS ONE FOR $425 (less than it COSTS for SHIPPING and TAX) and it works great.
If you have a potter in your life, they are doubtless familiar with the famous Lockerbie potter's wheel. They have been around for decades without any changes because "they work" and they work well. The only downside? They are HEAVY (about 300 lbs). But that's also part of what makes them so good. Once kicked up to speed, the reinforced concrete spinning wheel keeps spinning allowing for smooth transitions and detail work. They are exceptionally stable and solid. No rocking. No walking. All you have to worry about is centering the clay and working your magic.
This one is motorized, but it can be "kicked" manually to bring it to speed. Both the motor and the bearings on the main wheel are quiet and work exceptionally well. Some potters prefer the manual way of getting the wheel up to speed. And you can use this one that way. But if you pull them aside and quietly ask, most agree it is nice to have a motor to help it along. That becomes especially true if you are doing a lot of pots or if age begins to take a toll on your knees... making it is harder to kick and bring the heavy wheel up to speed. Prefer manual? The motor only only contacts the wheel when you press on the foot-pedal designed to bring the spinning base into contact with the wheel. The potter is in full control at all times.
This one includes the removable aluminum apron (which helps with clean up). The seat is made of wood (probably the original oak). Solid as a rock. You are going to LOVE it.

They still sell them brand new (with motor) for $2399. Here's the proof.

John Reiger demos a (manual) Lockerbie wheel. At the time he did this, he was 81. An old pro who knows his stuff. (He admits that kicking on a wheel for over 50 years has impacted his body.) I'm sure he wishes he had a motorized version. Worth watching his technique.

Here's a pottery professor holding forth on the Lockerbie. Lots of good tips on using this kind of wheel and the benefits of having a the inertia of a the heavy Lockerbie base to keep it spinning easily:
