VenmoHazel is a Modern ASPC Registered Shetland Mare foaled in 2014. We love this pony and selling her is a difficult choice for us! We’ve had her for 6 months and have worked with her a ton, but unfortunately she is just not quite the right fit for our family. She is amazing and so fun for me to work with, but not the best fit for our super beginner children.
She is sensitive and gentle, but not in-your-pocket. She enjoys pets but doesn’t typically seek you out for them. She has excellent ground manners and is an angel for the farrier, she’s very patient while the kids pick out her feet and help groom her. She’s quiet and easy to saddle.
We’ve done quite a bit of desensitization and groundwork with her. For the first 3 or so months we were working with her for at least an hour daily, the last couple of months she’s been worked at least once a week.
We have taken her out on a ton of leadline walks and hikes with our kids (8, 4)—usually at least once a week for hours—and she does really well most of the time. Sometimes she has been watchy and too forward/a little prancy for my children (lots of circling to settle her back down and get her refocused on me during those walks, at times they’ve had to get off while I work with her for a few minutes). There was an incident where we were trotting along and she suddenly gave some little crowhops. If my child (8) were more experienced he would have been able to ride it out, but he was unseated and slid off the side. I’m happy to talk in more detail about it if interested; I don’t think she was trying to get him off, this was our first ride after a couple weeks off and I think she was probably just feeling a little fresh.
The majority of the time she is calm and great for our kids, but at times she is just a little bit too sensitive and forward for a beginner child. She may be a good fit for a child with some experience, a home who wants to show or breed, a cute companion, or someone looking for a pony with the basics down and ready to be started under cart or further her career in in-hand jumping!
She can:\
Info from her previous home:\
Other notes:\
She is intelligent, curious and willing to check things out that she’s unsure about. She learns quickly and has tried/done anything we’ve asked her to. She is 44.25” according to her official ASPC measurement card, and taped around 450lbs. She has a Lifetime Brand Inspection.
We really want to find the best fit for her, so please reach out with any questions! We are happy to answer them all. PPE’s welcome at buyer’s expense.
