When we were looking for a cat, after our last cat passed away, we wanted a very, very specific personality in our next cat.
1. We wanted a good mouser. We live near fields and construction and we HATE having mice and voles anywhere near our house.
2. Great with the family - We've got a bunch of children and we wanted our cat to be very comfortable with kids and enjoy being part of the family.
While there are plenty of free and inexpensive kittens available, we were willing to pay for the right cat with the right personality.
We ended up getting 2 Siberian kittens to kind of hedge our bets a little and they BOTH turned out to be exactly what we wanted in every way.
1. Both our cats are good mousers, especially the mother (Dutchess). I've seen her catch a hummingbird out of the air. (she let it go). Even our neighbors have noticed that mice no longer come to their houses.
2. They are amazing family cats. They love to cuddle and love to just be with our family.
