this 85.5 Conquest was a Plymouth brand import, vs Chrysler or Dodge, and you know they're just rebranded Mitsubishi Starion cars made in Japan, March '85 here. Rare mid year update- it's the intercooled turbo but on the earlier style flat-fender body. 2.6L sohc turbo + 5 speed manual, 5-lug rims. Was off the road for 19 years, just recently refreshed and fixed up. It has 97k original miles, the engine is healthy and looks new inside, undesirable jet-valves were just eliminated, it was mechanically unmodified before me.
It recieved fully a new fuel system, from my other 88 car an original condition[clean stock interior coating]gas tank, new fuel filter new fuel pump, cleaned and flow matched original injectors.
Electric modules, it recieved a new main ECU computer, an ignition control 'knock box', a Climate Control Module for the hvac, and some relays. New brake master cylinder.
Exhaust has an 88 Starion oem muffler with dual tips. New set of tires on the rare oem 85 flatty rims 15", I can get ahold of other common oem style for a better look in many people's opinion if you like those better. Brand new windshield installed! Was happy to get that. Then it got a freshly recovered leather steering wheel from Royal Steering Wheels UK, took about 3 weeks in shipping. It's perfectly beautifully stitched and amazing feeling!
Car runs great and boosts strong, and is surprisingly smooth. Yes it could use a new paint job- it is an old repaint & was silver originally. The body is very straight, with narrow-body specific front lip under the bumper and with an 85-only rubber rear hatch spoiler, [Porsche 944 immitating going on hehe..] Ive owned 4 of these cars btw, longtime enthusiast & many great ownership memories, + a bunch of other Mitsubishis owned.. This 85.5 car has NO rust rot issues, thanks to all the years stored off the road. It has an uncommon color brown interior, so 80s. It has the turbo script door handles and also below the seat headrests, and manual seat belts [also turbo script] that people prefer over the later auto seatbelts. It FEELS like a low mileage fresh car, tight suspension steering brakes light clutch, and smooth engine. Clear Utah title, still showing off Cali 07 plates.
Im looking for $6,200 for the car like it sits, in Orem. Im still active in the starquest community & other car ownership, more parts and things available if youre looking, from Starquest Parts Midwest Jamie, and Starquest Steve east coast. Super cool to have the active community for these vintage cars, real cult classic.
