For sale is a beautiful, authentic vintage solid cedar storage trunk manufactured in Rockford, Illinois. This piece features a unique, space-saving "slim profile" that makes it incredibly versatile for modern homes compared to standard bulky blanket chests.
Specifications:
Dimensions: 47" Long x 12.5" Deep x 13.5" High
Wood Type: Made of 100% Solid Aromatic Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana). You can see the gorgeous natural contrast between the deep reddish heartwood and creamy white sapwood streaks, accented by rustic natural knots.
Aroma & Protection: True to high-quality cedar, the natural volatile oils inside give off a crisp, clean scent. Cedar is historically famous for naturally repelling moths, silverfish, and mildew without chemicals.
History & Age:
Age: Approximately 80 to 100 years old (1920s–1940s interwar era).
How to Age It: It features a partial, authentic vintage paper manufacturing sticker from Rockford, Illinois inside the lid (sticker is half-torn due to age, but the factory origin is clear). Rockford was a legendary American furniture hub during this era. The heavy surface-mounted iron strap hinges and simple flat-plank build are classic hallmarks of 1930s utility craftsmanship.
Condition (Sold AS-IS):
Inside: Excellent condition. Clean, raw, unpainted, and still smells wonderful.
Outside: Shows authentic vintage character with surface scratches and scuff marks on the original finished wood. There are some minor, small cosmetic age cracks on the wooden feet, but the trunk remains structurally stable and solid.
Hardware: Includes the original vintage latch lock mechanism, but there is no key.
The Vibe:
This trunk radiates a warm, cozy, and nostalgic "Cabin-Core" / Antique Americana vibe. It brings a grounded, rustic charm to any space, looking right at home next to warm textiles, indoor plants, and natural light.
Original vs. Modern Uses:
What it was for: Originally built as a "hope chest" or blanket trunk to store fine bridal linens, wool clothing, and precious keepsakes safely away from pests.
What you can use it for now: Thanks to its low 13.5" height and narrow 12.5" depth, it is the ultimate multi-functional accent piece. Use it as a mudroom entryway shoe bench, a window seat trunk that won't block your view, or a beautiful low-profile storage bench at the foot of a full/queen bed.
Price: $125 or Best Offer (OBO)
Terms: Cash or Venmo. Sold strictly as-is.Pickup Location: Must be picked up in Kanarraville, Utah (located just off I-15 in Iron County, right near the Kanarra Falls trailhead). Buyers must bring an appropriate vehicle and help to load it.
