Driftin Sanwood is a very well bred foundation barrel mare. She has produced many babies in the past and we have gotten 3 from her. She had a beautiful dunskin stud this year with a big blaze and blue eyes who sold very quick. Unfortunately, she has continued to come up open, and we are too late in the season to try again. With the price of hay this year, we simply can't keep her around and not paying her way. This is a great opportunity for someone looking for another broodmare that is high quality and cheap. You could try live cover next year, AI, or collect some eggs from her. She was checked at the beginning of the season by a vet, at that time she had a couple cysts and fluid retention. We treated her and let her out with the stud. She has had cysts present for a few years now, and they have not caused issues before with pregnancies.
Cons -
Was never started, career broodmare
Doesn’t allow people around her feet
Can be hard to catch
Is not an in your pocket sort of mare
Has several superficial scars
Has a large scar from some sort of injury on rear leg
Cautious with putting halters on
Has pulled back when tied, but been a while since she has
Carries one IMM gene, though never has had an episode
Pros -
5 Panel negative
Never been lame with me
Milks extremely well and babies GROW!
Her babies have always been very sweet and easy to train
Her oldest foals with us are just getting under saddle and have had great reviews on them
Allows you to handle foals with ease
Allows you to test her milk, help with foaling, milk her if needed
Easy to ultrasound
Will take on an orphan, even while feeding her own foal
Maintains a healthy weight despite her age
Has been maintained on an annual 6 way with WN virus and worming
Her papers are packed full of Hall of Fame, Foundation and Competing horses
She has her own quirks and is not a perfect mare or a young mare. I’d like to find her a last home situation. I think she would be a very sweet mare if she had less competition. I will sell her for $3,500 and a free breeding to Docs Peppy Concord for 2027 if interested.
