Meet Buttons! She is a miniature schnauzer mix, approximately 14.5 years old. Buttons was surrendered to us with minimal history. As a senior dog, it's unsurprising that she has a few health issues. She had pretty severe dental disease on arrival with many teeth already missing. We gave her a much-needed dental cleaning and extracted 12 teeth, leaving her with only 4 remaining. Radiographs were also performed, revealing a flower shaped bladder stone about 0.75inches big in diameter. We performed a cystotomy to remove it and she has been feeling much better ever since. We recommend a lifelong prescription diet to decrease the chance of reoccurrance. Radiographs also revealed an enlarged heart, and she has an audible heart murmur (grade 5/6). This will require lifelong heart medication. Buttons was adopted and then returned 4 days later due to the adopter not understanding the financial costs associated with caring for a senior dog. In those few days, she took Buttons to a vet clinic for a basic exam. The adopter reported that Buttons seems to be incontinent, frequently needing potty breaks and sometimes wetting the bed when asleep. While these medical issues can be daunting, Buttons is a very sweet girl that just wants a nice home to retire in. She doesn't mind being around other dogs, just wanting to settle into a cozy bed (maybe with a pee pad on it) for a nap.
