I believe I’ve setup the first ever 2m RBN node in our state. (If it’s not the first, it’s the only “currently active” 2m cw node, for sure) What is an RBN node? It’s a cool receive function where you can test your station’s 2 meter distance / signal strength. Similar to WSPR. However, this node receives cw only. Don’t know cw? No problem, you can easily program your 2m cw capable transceiver to send an automated cw message. Simply read your manual and program CQ CQ CALLSIGN (your callsign) and have it repeat a few times. You can then search reverse beacon network online and see if your antenna/signal hit my node. When you go to reversebeacon.net place your callsign in the “spotted (DX)” field and hit enter.
This could be a fun challenge if you’re in Salt Lake valley or anywhere in our state. My current 2m cw simplex distance record is 156 miles to a friend in Nevada.
Specifically choose a frequency between 144.014-144.036 and send your signal. Sure, as a formality, send “QRL?” Beforehand. But you’ll be hard pressed to ever hear a 2m cw signal in our state. So just go for it. Please shoot me a text on this listing with questions or success updates if you hit my RBN. I can also be emailed (my email is displayed on my QRZ page)
