Approximately 13-year-old, 14 hh gelding available for a free, long-term lease to the right home. He is approximately ¾ Paso Fino/Andalusian and ¼ Mustang.
He is a sweet, personable horse with a good temperament. He loves other horses and has always been very affectionate with people especially if you have treats.
He has primarily been used as a trail horse and is very sure-footed on rough and varied terrain. He was previously leased for a season as a bison-hunting pack horse and reportedly did very well. He walks, trots and canters, will ride alone, but is happier riding with other horses.
He has not been ridden consistently for approximately two years because I have moved out of state, due to my husband being in the military, so he should go to an experienced and confident horse person who can give him a sensible refresher and bring him back into regular work. However, he has always been able sit for long periods and still ride very well with little to no issues.
He was born on my family's property and I have owned him nearly his entire life and trained him myself when he was about 4 years old, so he has never been professionally finished but he does have a great temperament and I hope to find him a loving home for the time being until I can have my own place for him.
He has occasionally crow-hopped in the past when excited while galloping. He has not received specialized training in a particular discipline and is being offered as a trail or pleasure prospect rather than a finished performance horse.
He catches, ties, and does well for the farrier and veterinarian. He has never been shoed, but has always done well barefoot.
He does not load reliably into small or enclosed trailers and will need a patient, knowledgeable handler willing to continue working on trailer loading. A larger, more open trailer would be a better fit.
This is a free lease only, not a sale. The lessee would be responsible for his ordinary expenses, including suitable feed, board or pasture, routine veterinary care, dental care, hoof trimming and transportation. A written lease will be required.
An initial 12-month lease is preferred, with the possibility of renewing long term if the arrangement is a good fit. Utah placement is preferred, although a nearby out-of-state home may be considered. I'll be in NY for a couple more years and then might be in CA for another four after that so I am hoping to lease him for at least six years depending on the circumstances but that can be discussed.
He is very loved, and finding a safe, knowledgeable and permanent-feeling situation is the priority. Please message with your location, horse experience, intended use, facility information and details about any other horses he would live with. I will be back in UT the beginning of September so that would be the preferred time to organize something however we can arrange something else if needed.
He is currently located on my dads property in Pintura UT.
