Venmo$30 just to be sure he doesn’t become a feeder.
Toby’s back story - I want to start this off by saying that Toby will need someone patient, and dedicated to him. He is a defensive and territorial rat who needs love, time, and care. (He is okay once out of his cage, it’s being in his cage that’s the issue.)
He is also a year old. (We got him on April 27th,2025.) Obito, better known as Toby has not had the easiest life as a rat. When we got Toby, we got him with a sibling named Gaara. They both were supposed to be roommates with our other rat Lee, who lost his cage mate. Gaara ended up having some neurological issues that developed overnight, and he ended up passing away, leaving Toby alone with Lee.
Toby and Lee were friends, not the best of friends, but friends. Lee was a full grown rat while Toby was more so a teenager at this point, so they had their issues. With a roommate, Toby was already pretty stand offish. He would run and hide when you’d come near the cage, he wouldn’t come near you when you’d offer pets, but he’d cautiously grab treats. He would come out of the cage for free roam time, but wouldn’t get close to you.
Fast forward a couple months, Lee unfortunately developed a really bad URI overnight, and passed away, leaving Toby alone. He has been alone since then, and we’ve been able to kinda supplement having a cagemate by spending time with him. He has become extremely defensive and territorial since Lee passed, and will bite. Even with this “aggression” we still tried to give him as much attention as possible. Giving him treats through the cage, and trying to interact with him by using welding gloves to avoid being bitten. He has drawn blood on both me and my boyfriend. I love him, and I wish I could give him more time and attention that he deserves, but i recently had a baby and cannot offer that attention anymore.
He would come with his cage, bedding, any treats or decorations he has. He has a decent sized cage, and we would be sure to clean it before pick up.
I just want him to go to a good home, and to someone who has other rats, that can maybe get him out of this defensiveness. I can say he was never aggressive/defensive with other rats, other than the typical fighting for dominance thing they do. But I’m not sure how that’s changed since he hasn’t had a friend in a while.
I can tell he just wants friends, and love. And unfortunately I can’t afford, or do it right now since I have a newborn. If you are interested in this little guy, please PM me and we can get something figured out. I just want him to live out the rest of his years (however long that may be) happy and healthy.
