This stout 6-year-old mare is ready to get back to work. She stands 15.2 hands and wears a size 2 shoe.
She had a year off while raising a foal, which she delivered in January. I’ve had her back in regular work since early June and she’s coming along well. Because of the time off, she is best suited for an experienced rider while she continues to rebuild her confidence and fitness. She has been used consistently and gets better with regular riding.
She makes an excellent pack horse and has a great mind for the job. She stands tied all day, loads and hauls well, bathes, lunges, stands quietly for the farrier, and is an extremely easy keeper. She gets along well with other horses, whether turned out in a pasture or traveling in a pack string.
I use grain to catch her in a pasture or larger corral. At the beginning of a ride she may need 10–15 minutes to be reminded that the world isn’t as scary as she thinks. Once she settles in, she’s enjoyable to ride and goes on with her job.
If you’re looking for a solid mare with plenty of potential and don’t mind putting a little time into her at the start of a ride, she’ll make someone a great partner.
